Viral Rising Band NOVA BRUTE Drop Brooding New Single “Drama Queen” + Music Video

South Florida alternative metal group NOVA BRUTE are leaning further into their dark, nostalgic edge with their latest single, “Drama Queen.” The track continues the band’s steady climb through Florida’s underground scene, pairing their nu-metal and shoegaze influences with the emotionally raw songwriting that’s quickly becoming their signature.

Formed in 2024 as an expansion of vocalist EX-LUDO’s solo project, NOVA BRUTE has built a growing audience through a mix of heavy, introspective music and an online presence that refuses to take itself too seriously. The band’s identity lives somewhere between those two worlds. Their songs tend to dig into messy emotions, while their social media feeds are filled with chaotic humor and self-aware skits. “Drama Queen” fits right into that bittersweet duality.

The song leans into the band’s Y2K-tinged sound, pulling from the melodic heaviness of bands like Deftones, Linkin Park, and early 2000s alt-metal while keeping one foot planted in modern metalcore. Thick layers of guitar swell underneath EX-LUDO’s vocals, shifting between fragile and confrontational as the song builds.

The result feels intense without losing its emotional center. “Drama Queen” doesn’t just aim for heaviness. It sits in that uncomfortable space between obsession, frustration, and vulnerability, the kind of emotional spiral that alternative music has always thrived on. At times the track feels like the sonic equivalent of a late-night argument that refuses to end, simmering between confrontation and vulnerability.

The band shares,

“This song is essentially our follow-up to ‘Criminal’ as we continue to cement our sound. Over the past two years, we’ve experimented a lot and finally found our lane of inspiration, one that’s going to carry us into our first album.”

The band’s momentum has been building well before “Drama Queen.” Their previous single “Criminal” has already pulled in more than 53,000 views on YouTube, helping introduce the band to a wider audience beyond South Florida’s local scene. At the same time, NOVA BRUTE’s online presence has been steadily exploding. The band now sits at over 54.5K followers on Instagram, with their reach stretching even further across Facebook, TikTok and other platforms. Alongside their heavier music releases, the group has gained a reputation for chaotic, self-aware skit content that regularly racks up viral views, giving fans a glimpse of the humor that sits behind the band’s darker sound.

While “Criminal” introduced many listeners to NOVA BRUTE’s blend of moody heaviness and melody, “Drama Queen” feels like a natural next step rather than a repeat of the formula. The newer track leans further into the band’s emotional core, layering dense guitars with a more dramatic vocal performance that pushes the tension higher. Where “Criminal” carried a sense of controlled intensity, “Drama Queen” feels more volatile, like the emotional dial has been turned up a few extra notches.

Since forming, NOVA BRUTE have gained traction both online and on stage. Their music has landed placements on Spotify’s “All New Metal” and “Fresh Heavy Finds" playlists, while their live shows have already put them in front of sizable crowds across Florida. The band has shared stages with artists including I Set My Friends On Fire, Poorstacy, and GIZMO, and performed events like Talloween at Florida State University, which drew more than 1,000 attendees.

Visually and stylistically, NOVA BRUTE lean fully into a cyber-grunge, MySpace-era aesthetic that matches the emotional weight of their music. It’s nostalgic, dramatic, and a little tongue-in-cheek, which makes the band feel both theatrical and disarmingly human.

With “Drama Queen,” NOVA BRUTE continues carving out a lane that blends modern heaviness with early-2000s alternative nostalgia. For a band barely two years into its existence, they’re already building the kind of momentum that suggests Florida’s underground scene might not be able to keep them for long.

Nova Brute hits The Banyan Live in West Palm Beach, FL on April 16th, backed a special lineup featuring Ayo Dylan and special guest Fastwalker for a Y2K themed night.
